Greening Our Government Culture

On , I took part in the first Greening Government roundtable at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec.

This event brought together federal employees and environmental leaders from all sectors to discuss how the Government and other organizations can make their cultures more environmentally conscious.

After a panel discussion that focused on successful green campaigns, participants discussed ways to reduce the Government’s carbon footprint.

One participant suggested using gaming technology to create fun workplace competitions that could drive innovation and results. We tapped into a world of ideas!

Public service leaders learned how businesses and other governments are supporting their employees and can use these lessons to complement their own efforts. And employees are now armed with tips and resources to help them in greening their work and personal lives.

The roundtable also laid the foundation for long-term collaboration among all levels of government, the private sector and community organizations to support our greening objectives.

This is just the beginning. There will be four more roundtables in cities across Canada by this fall, and more great ideas to come on how we can all fight climate change within, and outside of, government.

Please join us by sharing your ideas at #GreeningGovernment.

Let’s keep the momentum going in greening our culture!
