Vancouver’s lively and dynamic middle class is vital to our thriving economy. In recent years, our city has flourished with new job opportunities as the unemployment rate has dropped to the lowest point in almost a decade. Vancouver proudly represents a sizable share of the 400,000 new, mostly full time, jobs created in arts and culture, trades, education and much more. Many of these were created by you as small business owners.
I was fortunate to meet small businesses in our area this past weekend at the Kitsilano Neighbood House’s Autumn Fair. I have heard your concerns and recognize there is more work to do. To help our middle class, and the small businesses on which it depends, we will be fulfilling our campaign promise to lower the small business tax rate from 11 percent in 2015 to 9 per cent by 2019. With you in mind, I will continue to work to ensure that Vancouver Quadra benefits from the growth we create.
