Joyce Murray appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board

(Ottawa, ON) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed Joyce Murray, MP Vancouver Quadra as Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board.

“According to the Treasury Board’s Mandate Letter the overarching goal will be to lead the management agenda of the government and oversee the implementation and delivery of Cabinet-approved initiatives,” said Murray. “I am honoured to be appointed and I am looking forward to applying my business and management experience to this task. I have had opportunity to work closely with the Honourable Scott Brison for more than a decade ‎and am pleased to support his work with this challenging agenda.”

Joyce Murray was first elected to Parliament in 2008. She served on the standing committees of Trade, Health, Fisheries and Oceans, Environment and Sustainable Development, and most recently, Defence, as well as being the critic for National Defence.

Her private members bills and motions included a crude oil tanker traffic ban on British Columbia’s North Coast, and increasing the accountability and transparency of Canada’s security agencies.

Before entering federal politics, Joyce was elected to British Columbia’s Legislative Assembly, where she served as a cabinet minister in the Liberal government from 2001 to 2005.

Her political career followed 25 years spent building an international reforestation company she co-founded that has planted over one billion trees. Her interest in environmental sustainability was expressed in her master’s thesis on global warming, which contributed to her receiving the Simon Fraser University Dean’s Convocation Medal for top MBA graduate of 1992.

Joyce has three adult children and lives in Vancouver Quadra with her husband, Dirk.
