Budget 2016 saw the Canada Child Benefit put more money in the pockets of nine out of ten families. We followed that up with historic new investments in Budget 2017.
Budget 2017 proposes to invest more than $11.2 billion over 11 years, in addition to preserving the baseline funding related to expiring social housing agreements, to make sure all families have access to safe and affordable places to live.
We have committed to supporting up to 40,000 affordable childcare spaces over the next 3 years, and are investing $7 billion over 10 years to ensure Canadian children have access to the high-quality care that they deserve.
Canada’s EI system has been improved to make maternity and parental benefits more flexible, and we’re making caregiver benefits more inclusive for Canadians who provide care for a family member.
