Please join MP Joyce Murray at her March 9, 2018 MP Breakfast Connections with guest speaker Shauna Sylvester on Canada’s Feminist Foreign Policy: What it means in Peace and Conflict.
Global conflicts affect women and girls in unique ways, and Canada’s new Feminist Foreign Policy seeks to address this. The current refugee crisis has created even greater vulnerability and insecurity for women. Women and child refugees are often subject to both sexual and physical violence on their journey or even in their destination country.
Shauna Sylvester is the Executive Director of the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue. This winter Shauna and Alice Nderitu, a Kenyan global peace mediator and the 2017/2018 Jack. P Blaney Award recipient, worked with dozens of women in Canada who survived armed conflict and genocide in their home countries. Shauna and Alice then traveled to Ottawa to bring this first-hand experience to help shape the government’s Feminist Foreign Policy.
Join the conversation as Shauna shares inspiring stories of these women leaders, and discuss the practical solutions through which Canada’s foreign policy can help bridge peace across ethnic divides.
