Please join MP Joyce Murray at her Friday, June 29, 2018 MP Breakfast Connections featuring UBC President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Santo Ono: Government Investment in Research and Innovation – will it pay off?
The Canadian government has made an historic multi-billion dollar investment into innovation and research in the 2018 Budget. But can we be sure this investment will deliver results for the Canadian economy and taxpayers? Canada has struggled to compete in the global race to foster innovative, globally competitive companies-the Apples, Googles and Teslas of the world. How can this investment facilitate the transition to the digital, clean economy and create future health, prosperity and opportunity, with a smaller ecological footprint?
Join Santo Ono to hear his thoughts! Professor Ono is UBC’s 15th president and vice-chancellor. He is a Canadian-American biologist and university administrator who has worked at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, University College London, and Emory universities. He is also a frequent keynote speaker on Innovation, Mental Health, Education and Social Justice. UBC is a lead in the new Digital Technology “Supercluster” bringing together private industry, high-tech start-ups, health institutions and researchers to create new collaborations and nurture leading-edge ideas and possibilities.
Let’s discuss with Professor Ono the role universities can play in producing and transforming innovation for a positive future for our citizens and for humankind!
