November MP Breakfast: 2016 US Election Results with Dr. Paul Quirk

Please join MP Joyce Murray at her Friday, November 18, 2016 MP Breakfast Connections with special guest Dr. Paul Quirk, Phil Lind Chair in US Politics and Representation at UBC who will discuss the results of the US election!

cropped-hr-paul-quirk-1Americans will vote on November 8th to choose their 45th president.  As neighbours, we have been witness to this extraordinary election campaign amid crisis and controversy affecting both Democratic contender Hillary Clinton and her Republican rival Donald Trump.  Trump’s populist rhetoric is galvanizing disenfranchised voters but risks calling into question the legitimacy of the US electoral system itself.  What will the outcome mean for America and the rest of the world?

Dr. Quirk is a citizen and lifelong resident of the US until he joined the UBC faculty in 2004.  After receiving his PhD at Harvard University (1978), he taught at many US universities, most recently University of Illinois.  He has written on a wide range of topics in American politics, including Congress, the presidency, presidential elections, public opinion, regulatory politics, and public policy making. Professor Quirk is active in the U.S. Studies Program at UBC.

Join us for a lively discussion in the wake of this historic election!
