Greener, more modern office space will promote great service for Vancouver Quadra residents in Ottawa
MP Joyce Murray and her Parliament Hill office team will be relocating to the historic and beautifully restored Wellington Building, Room 508. Today was the official opening of the new space and the Vancouver Quadra team will be moving early in the new year.
As the lead on Canada’s strategy for Greening of Government Operations, MP Joyce Murray would like to highlight the fact that the Wellington Building’s interior was redesigned with environmental technologies in mind, while preserving its heritage value. The historical character of the building essentially remains through the restoration of features such as the lobby mosaic created by muralist Barry Faulkner in 1927. Among the new additions are many green initiatives to decrease waste and costs, as well as to reduce our ecological footprint, in fact lowering the building’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30%. Features include a glazed skylight that allows natural light to fill the resource library and a green wall of plants that absorbs carbon dioxide, dampens noise and cleans the air. Additionally, a green roof harvests rainwater to irrigate the plants, and solar panels preheat hot water for the building.
Joyce and the team are proud to continue serving as the voice of Vancouver Quadra residents in Ottawa and are excited to be carrying out this important work in a more modern and more green office environment.
