The Vancouver Quadra Constituency Youth Council (CYC) is very excited to launch their book drive. The CYC is a group of high school students dedicated to engaging and improving the local community through initiatives such as the Book Drive. The Council meets regularly with me to discuss their work and advocate on behalf of our communities youth. Members of Vancouver Quadra’s CYC have met three times since the council’s formation in early October 2017 and have decided that running a book drive would be an excellent benefit to the community.
The Vancouver Quadra CYC have partnered with Friends of the Vancouver Public Library in order to collect fiction, non-fiction, children and teen books, books in other languages, CDs, DVDs, LPs, and cash donations. Funds raised from the sale of books are returned to the Library in the form of grants for special projects and equipment for all the branches. For example, in 2017, Dunbar Branch received a grant to purchase a book and toy storage unit.
Large encyclopedia sets are not accepted, with the exception of the Encyclopedia Britannica.
The drive runs from November 23rd until December 7th.
Please bring your book donations to your school or the constituency office.
There will also be an opportunity to bring books to my Christmas party.
