Housing is a huge priority for me as your MP! I rolled up my sleeves within weeks of the 2015 election to make sure the new government understood Vancouver’s unique and pressing challenges.
- This April I co-chaired my fourth public consultation on Vancouver’s housing prices, and again forwarded my recommendations to the Prime Minister and relevant ministers. The federal government is redoubling efforts to reduce housing speculation related tax evasion and money laundering, and the CRA is targeting unfair and unethical practices. Over the past three years, CRA auditors identified $630 million in additional taxes and penalties related to the real estate sector from their review of 30,000 files, mainly in Vancouver and Toronto.
- Our government has made historic investments to address affordable housing through Canada’s first ever National Housing Strategy. With record investments over 10 years, this strategy will cut chronic homelessness in half, support 530,000 families in housing need, and renew or build 400,000 affordable homes.
