Vancouver Quadra’s Constituency Youth Council (CYC) continues its hard work in the 2017/18 school year. Council membership grew to 34 motivated grade 9 to 12 youth who are making a difference in our community. Their fall community book drive raised awareness about the importance of literacy, collecting more than 1,000 books for Friends of the Vancouver Public Library, and this initiative was recognized in Ottawa as an example of a successful CYC event!
In January the CYC co-hosted a Policy Café on Social Innovation and Social Finance with MP Joyce Murray at Kitsilano Community Centre. Community members of all ages gathered to share ideas for advancing social enterprise and innovation. These ideas were then reported to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development as part of his consultation on this important subject.
What a great way for young people to share their priorities with their MP and Prime Minister, while learning leadership skills and contributing to the broader community!
