OTTAWA - Member of Parliament and Liberal leadership candidate Joyce Murray today received support for her cooperation platform proposal from independent New Democrat Bruce Hyer, Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay Superior North.
In a statement delivered in the House of Commons today, Hyer noted that, “In 2011, most voters did not get what they voted for. Whether they favoured Greens, NDP, or Liberals, often they received a Conservative MP due to our undemocratic voting system.”
“Only one of the candidates running for Liberal leadership has a real plan for electoral reform, putting Canada and democracy before party politics. I hope that Canadians will seriously consider the ideas of the Member for Vancouver Quadra,” said MP Hyer.
"I am delighted to have Bruce’s support,” said MP Murray. “We have been colleagues in the House of Commons and on Parliament’s All-Party International Conservation Caucus for several years, and I am continually inspired by his relentless commitment to sustainability. He also understands the vital importance of cooperating in the next election so we can reform our electoral system and ensure the sustainability of Canada’s democracy.”
Prior to entering politics, Hyer worked as an ecologist, biologist, forester, and businessperson.
